Identifies and reads Windows BMP, JPEG, PNG, and TIFF format bitmap images. Identification defaults to the use of the magic number embedded in the file rather than the file extension. Reading of JPEG and PNG image depends on libjpg and libpng libraries. See file INSTALL for details if necessary.

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Development version from jefferis/readbitmap. Installs pak first if it is not already available.

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make

RPMs from the iucar/cran COPR, rebuilt from CRAN.
