Efficient implementation of Kernel SHAP (Lundberg and Lee, 2017, <doi:10.48550/arXiv.1705.07874>) permutation SHAP, and additive SHAP for model interpretability. For Kernel SHAP and permutation SHAP, if the number of features is too large for exact calculations, the algorithms iterate until the SHAP values are sufficiently precise in terms of their standard errors. The package integrates smoothly with meta-learning packages such as 'tidymodels', 'caret' or 'mlr3'. It supports multi-output models, case weights, and parallel computations. Visualizations can be done using the R package 'shapviz'.

Install

install.packages("kernelshap")

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

pak::pak("ModelOriented/kernelshap")

Development version from ModelOriented/kernelshap. Requires the pak package.

Release

# one-time r2u setup for Ubuntu (noble)

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/eddelbuettel/r2u/master/inst/scripts/add_cranapt_noble.sh | sudo bash

# then install

sudo apt install r-cran-kernelshap

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). Run the setup once per machine.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make

sudo dnf copr enable iucar/cran

sudo dnf install R-CRAN-kernelshap

RPMs from the iucar/cran COPR, rebuilt from CRAN.

sudo zypper install R-kernelshap

RPMs auto-built from CRAN on openSUSE OBS.
