Read hierarchical fixed width files like those commonly used by many census data providers. Also allows for reading of data in chunks, and reading 'gzipped' files without storing the full file in memory.

Install

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Development version from ipums/hipread. Installs pak first if it is not already available.

Release

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make

sudo dnf install -y R-CRAN-hipread

RPMs from the iucar/cran COPR, rebuilt from CRAN.

For install.packages() integration in R, also: sudo dnf install R-CoprManager
