An R interface to the 'Free Dictionary API' https://dictionaryapi.dev/, https://github.com/meetDeveloper/freeDictionaryAPI. Retrieve dictionary definitions for English words, as well as additional information including phonetics, part of speech, origins, audio pronunciation, example usage, synonyms and antonyms, returned in 'tidy' format for ease of use.

Install

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Development version from stevecondylios/dictionaRy. Installs pak first if it is not already available.

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make

RPMs from the iucar/cran COPR, rebuilt from CRAN.

For install.packages() integration in R, also: sudo dnf install R-CoprManager
