A framework is provided to develop R packages using 'Rust' https://www.rust-lang.org/ with minimal overhead, and more wrappers are easily added. Help is provided to use 'Cargo' https://doc.rust-lang.org/cargo/ in a manner consistent with CRAN policies. 'Rust' code can also be embedded directly in an R script. The package is not official, affiliated with, nor endorsed by the Rust project.

Install

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Development version from dbdahl/cargo-framework. Installs pak first if it is not already available.

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make

sudo dnf install -y R-CRAN-cargo

RPMs from the iucar/cran COPR, rebuilt from CRAN.

For install.packages() integration in R, also: sudo dnf install R-CoprManager
